I am a mountain and ultra runner. I really appreciated your post. You expressed the difference between passion and interest so eloquently. It is incredibly difficult for those who haven't experienced a passion for something to understand. I also coach and I plan on putting up a copy of your post on my high school track info board.

Look forward to following your journey this summer.

LOVE this post! I can relate completely (although on a much smaller level). Passion is a difficult thing to put into words, but you've done it beautifully. We miss you up here, but are cheering for you!

If you need advice on the zombie apocalypse please see my extensive series of blogs on it starting here. http://thewaronsanity.blogspot.com/2011/01/zombies-survival-and-stuff-part-1.html mind you the ninja is my alter ego and I am by no means responsible for anything he says.
I liked the insight. Interest will get you started but passion will keep you going.

Great perspective. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree, Passion and Interest are different "animals". They are different internal motivators...with distinct expectations. It's clear what motivates you. Your article, reminds of something my mom told me when I was 7 years old, after failing to make the hot-stove baseball league. She said, "If you want it bad enough, you'll get it". That "want" was so powerful that I couldn't help but do something about it. That's you as you pursue your passion. Keep up the great work, Loree.
